If you want to check fuel prices, here is where you can do it, http://www.staveleyhead.co.uk/utilities/petrol-prices-dashboard/. This organisation called Staveley Head moniters fuel costs throughout the UK; you just enter your poscode and it tells you where the cheapest fuel is locally.
It is estimated that that on average £250 per year can be saved by shopping around. The website also has a feature that allows you to calculate your fuel costs based on your make and model of car, taking into account your annual mileage. It will also rather depressingly show a chart of how fuel costs have risen since 2003.
In one example Staveley Head found a difference of 14p per litre between two garages in the same road in Leeds. The real problem is that many motorists just don’t shop around. Our car leasing clients who run a fleet of company cars, often complain about high fuel costs but of course the employee who is filling the car with fuel, has no incentive to shop around.
There are however many motorists who are paying for their own fuel and not particularly well off, yet still pay no attention to the price at the pump. The type of car you drive is important, some cars have far better fuel consumption than others and it doesn’t necessarily need to be a small car; we have a BMW 7 Series contract hire car – pictured above – that has an amazing combined fuel cycle of 41.5mpg. Furthermore it is very inexpensive at just £450 plus Vat per month.
