Does calling a car Zoe, damage children who go by that name?

In a recent court case Renault cars of France won the right to call its new Electric car Zoe. Two set of parents whose children are named Zoe, attempted to stop Renault from using this name. It must be wonderful to have enough spare time on your hands, to be able to spend it in this manner.

The parent’s lawyer argued that children called Zoe, although we suspect they were thinking more of their own children, would be made a laughing stock if they had to share their name with a car. There is however no evidence of girls who are called Clio, being made a laughing stock, and the Renault Clio has been around for years.

The parent’s lawyer David Koubbi said the girls would be humiliated by people saying things like “Can I see your airbags?” Really, well at least we know how Mr Koubbi thinks. Unsurprisingly the judge dismissed the case saying he was not convinced that the girls would come to any harm.  Further evidence of the amount of time the parents have on their hands, is that they are now planning to appeal against the Judge’s decision.
