A VW Passat has just beaten the World record by covering the furthest distance ever recorded on a single tank of fuel. The vehicle covered 1,531 miles with an average consumption of 90 mpg.
The journey was from Maidstone in Kent to the South of France and a considerable part of the return journey too. This three day trip was witnessed by two AA patrolmen who were driving behind the Passat for the whole journey, apparently without falling asleep at the wheel. The model was a Passat Bluemotion which had a 1.6 litre engine.
This is good publicity for the VW Passat which is one of our very popular contract hire models. The majority of those who lease a VW Passat seem to be attracted by its looks; it’s a wonderful looking vehicle but drawing attention to its fuel economy never does any harm.
As for the gentleman who drove for three days at 45 mph, it’s not quite the same as beating the World land speed record or the highest ever sky dive but a World record is a World record.
